Off & On is a sleek, modern take on a men’s barbershop. Or is it? Inspired by the speakeasies of the early 20th century, the façade is just a front for the more taboo and “prohibited” secret that lies beneath. This is reflected in every detail of the club. Green fine leather, smooth marble and wood all come together to give off an aura of sophistication and luxury. But this ain’t no gentleman’s club: the use of refined materials further confuses your mind as they are juxtaposed against the heavy electro beats of the club and the risqué nature of its clientele. Remember, you’re in a place that doesn’t exist and nothing is quite as it seems.

Imagine that nothing is what it seems it is. Imagine that everything you thought were true is false. Imagine that somewhere you thought existed was actually just the face of a much deeper reality.

This is the secret behind Off & On – a place that breaks the conventions of expectation and delivers you right into the depths of your imagination.

Off & On is a sleek, modern take on a men’s barbershop. Or is it? Inspired by the speakeasies of the early 20th century, the façade is just a front for the more taboo and “prohibited” secret that lies beneath. To casual passersby, Off & On is retro-minimalist barber, with just one red leather chair, sitting on vintage black and white tiles in the heart of Beirut’s Downtown. To the uncurious, that’s all it is. However, for those who dare to be more inquisitive there is a door that will lead them into the unknown. All they have to do is find it.

The door squeaks open and leads you up a narrowing staircase. Dark, with only a small red light to guide your way, this initial experience serves to only intensify your curiosity. Then comes the music – beats throbbing from above what you thought was just a barbershop. Your mind confused and your adrenalin pumping, you come to the big reveal: a luxurious and opulent club that welcomes you with devilish temptation.

Off & On is not for the lighthearted – it’s a place that keeps you on your toes and pushes you out of your comfort zone. You can’t chill at the bar – there are no stools – just get your drink and get back to dancing. Even the restrooms act as a social lubricant. The minimalist bathroom, partly exposed to the rest of the club, is decked out in 10×10 black and white tiles, with a common washbasin area for both genders made to ease conversation and interaction.

Plan

From the moment you enter the barbershop to the second you leave the club, Off & On is designed to suck you into a world you never expected to exist, throwing all your senses out of sync as you try to never make it back to the real world.
